Bridging the Gap between the 'Haves' and 'Have Nots'

In 2002 a Report Bridging the Gap between the 'Haves' and the 'Have Nots' was published by The World Education Fellowship. In essence the Report addresses key issues of concern across the country about those Australians who continue to experience disadvantage in a variety of ways. The Report re-affirmed the role of education as a major contribution to the transformation of Australian society, and as a passport to employment and fuller participation in that society. The current program reflects the ideas and recommendations coming from NEEF Australia's first Report.

Information and Communications Technologies Research Project

This Research Project was initiated in 2004 and completed in 2006 as a NEEF Report. The pilot project was implemented in partnership with Griffith University with sponsorship from Education Queensland.

The project focused on developing positive aspirations and a set of corporate capabilities among a group of children in Year 7 and 8 who were considered to be 'at risk' of poor learning outcomes, and providing them with the necessary ICT (Information and Communications Technologies) skills for full participation in the classroom and in their daily lives. A copy of this research project is available on request.

Current research

University of Queensland and NEEF Australia

In October 2008 a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed between the School of Health & Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Queensland and NEEF Australia – an approved research institute, to establish a collaborative link to fulfil some of the following objectives:

  • to develop a financially assisted research program within the already established Literacy for Life Unit (Victoria Research Study)
  • to provide opportunities for the University to benefit through fundraising activities and advocacy in the form of dissemination of information about the work of Literacy for Life
  • to provide opportunities for collaborative research in fields that may extend the current work of the Literacy for Life unit; for example, support for research involving neuro-imaging and scanning to explore the neurological correlates of literacy skills in order to produce objective data about the causes of literacy failure.
